Populus x canescens (Ait.) Sm.
Family: Salicaceae
Name justification:
Populus is the Latin name for the trees belonging to this genus: poplars.
Canescens: 'white', 'greyish', referring to the colour of its bark. That is what distinguishes it from Populus nigra, which has black bark, and from Populus alba, which has white bark.
Common name: Gray poplar
Description: Tall tree
Leaf: Decidious Broad Entire
Origin and distribution:
It possibly has its origin in the crossbreed of Populus alba and Populus tremula. It has grown wild in some European countries, including Spain, but not in Galicia.
Location in the garden:
There are three specimens on the North point of the playpen and another one at the slope leading to O Pombal street.
